YOGIS HERBS Keezhanelli Capsules (Phyllanthus Niruri)

What is it

Keezhanelli — Phyllanthus niruri, the little herb of the rice-field margins — carries one of the loveliest names in the Tamil plant world. Keezh means “beneath,” nelli means “gooseberry”: the “gooseberry that grows beneath its leaves,” because its tiny round fruits line up hidden along the underside of each leafy branch, unseen until you turn it over. Sanskrit called it Bhumyamalaki, “the amla of the earth” — a ground-hugging little cousin of the great amla tree; across the Amazon, the same herb is known as chanca piedra. Since the era of the Charaka Samhita it has been valued across Siddha and Ayurveda as a herb for liver and urinary wellness and everyday cleansing. We take the whole herb, cleaned and milled single-ingredient into a vegetarian capsule — the humble weed with the hidden fruit, made effortless.

What Makes This Different

  • Whole herb, single ingredient. Whole-plant Phyllanthus niruri powder — no fillers, binders, flow agents or extract dilution.
  • The whole herb, as tradition uses it. Siddha works with the entire little plant; we use the whole herb, and say so.
  • Correctly identified. Sold as Keezhanelli / Bhumyamalaki (Phyllanthus niruri) and carefully sourced — the Phyllanthus cousins are easily confused, so precise identity matters.
  • Third-party tested. Independently verified by accredited labs for quality and purity; lab reports available.
  • Certified base: FSSAI Central Licensed, GMP compliant, ISO 22000.

What It Does

  • A classical liver-and-cleansing herb. Since the era of the Charaka Samhita, Keezhanelli (Bhumyamalaki) has been valued across Siddha and Ayurveda as a herb for liver wellness and everyday internal cleansing — one of tradition’s most trusted herbs for the purpose.
  • Naturally antioxidant-rich. Laboratory assays (DPPH, ABTS, FRAP) record notable antioxidant activity in the herb, tied to its flavonoids (quercetin, rutin), phenolics and its signature lignans, phyllanthin and hypophyllanthin (in vitro).
  • Traditionally supportive of urinary comfort. In keeping with its long traditional use, Keezhanelli has been valued for the body’s natural fluid balance and urinary wellness.
  • Traditionally supportive of digestive comfort. Bitter and cooling by nature, the herb has long featured in traditional approaches to comfortable digestion.
  • Emerging angle — its lignans. Keezhanelli’s characteristic lignans, phyllanthin and hypophyllanthin, are an active area of antioxidant and phytochemical research (in vitro).

Keezhanelli — The Fruit That Hides Beneath the Leaf

Walk past it and you’d see only a feathery little weed by the roadside. Turn a branch over, though, and there they are: rows of tiny round fruits tucked along the underside of every leaf — the reason Tamil named it Keezhanelli, “the gooseberry beneath.” Sanskrit called it Bhumyamalaki, the amla of the earth. It is a herb that keeps its worth hidden until you look closer — which is, perhaps, exactly why the old healers prized it as their herb of the liver.

How to Take It

Take one to two veg capsules daily with water, as part of your daily routine. Best enjoyed steadily as part of a balanced lifestyle. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, giving it to a child, or taking prescription medication, consult a healthcare professional before use.
