Description
What is it
You’ve likely met this one before you ever saw it. Nerunji — the little thorn that hides in the dust of the Tamil roadside and finds the sole of a bare foot — is the spiny fruit of Tribulus terrestris, the puncture vine. Sanskrit named it Gokshura, “the cow’s hoof,” for the hard, hoof-shaped burr it scatters across dry ground. A stubborn plant of the wasteland — and yet Charaka and Sushruta gave it a place of honour, counting it among the Mutravirechaniya herbs: those that support the body’s natural urinary flow. We take the whole dried fruit — the thorn itself, carefully cleaned and ground — into a mild, earthy, caffeine-free cup.
What Makes This Different
- Whole fruit, the classical part. Gokshura’s tradition rests on the spiny fruit — the Nerunji mull — and that is what fills every bag, not a leaf or stem blend.
- The thorn, carefully prepared. The fruit is a hard, thorned caltrop; cleaning and grinding it cleanly into a smooth cup takes real care — and that care is the difference.
- Whole herb, nothing added. Pure Tribulus terrestris fruit — no flavourings, no fillers. Naturally caffeine-free.
- Clean and careful. Prepared in an FSSAI-licensed, GMP-compliant kitchen in Tamil Nadu.
What It Does
- The classical urinary herb (Mutravirechaniya). For millennia Ayurveda and Siddha have valued Gokshura fruit for the body’s natural urinary flow and comfort — its foremost classical role.
- Traditionally supportive of fluid balance. In keeping with that tradition, Nerunji has long been valued for the body’s healthy fluid balance; animal studies note its gentle diuretic character while preserving the body’s ionic balance (animal).
- Naturally antioxidant-rich. Laboratory assays record antioxidant activity in the fruit, tied to its flavonoids and phenolics (in vitro).
- A classical Rasayana. Charaka and Sushruta count Gokshura among the rejuvenative herbs valued for everyday, balanced wellness.
- The thorn everyone knows by feel. Few herbs are as instantly recognisable — the nerunji that pricks a bare heel is the very same humble plant the classical texts set among their most valued.
