Classical Siddha formularies including Agasthiyar Gunapadam prescribe it specifically for madhumegam (diabetes), skin diseases, liver complaints, and as a general blood purifier. The Sarabendra Vaidya Muraigal, a classical Siddha text, recommends Avarampoo decoction for fever with excess body heat. In the Ayurvedic tradition, it is listed in the Bhavaprakasha Nighantu as a herb that destroys excess Kapha and Pitta.
